Why We Might Use
Solana
Solana is one of the strongest existing blockchains for building a TCG ecosystem.
Advantages
- Speed & Scale
We can process thousands of trades, duels, and membership actions with sub-second confirmations. Players won’t feel blockchain lag in their matches. - Low Cost
Transactions cost fractions of a cent. This lets us keep memberships and trading nearly free, removing barriers for new players. - Ecosystem Tools
Solana already has NFT standards, card marketplaces, rental systems, and wallets (like Phantom). We can launch quickly by building on these foundations. - Community Exposure
By existing inside Solana’s vibrant ecosystem, we tap into an audience already used to gaming NFTs and collectibles.
Challenges
- If Solana suffers outages, our game pauses too.
- We share space with many other NFT projects, which can make our brand less unique.
- We must follow Solana’s roadmap and live with their design decisions.
Why We Might Build
Our Own Blockchain
Designing a dedicated Starfall Catastrophe Chain would give us sovereignty.
Advantages
- Full Control
We could shape block times, validator roles, and even create custom transaction types for gameplay (deck shuffles, duels, energy use). - Lore Integration
Each faction could be a validator set, “energy” could literally be gas. The blockchain becomes a narrative layer of Starfall Catastrophe. - Economy of Our Own
A Starfall Catastrophe token would run the in-game economy without competing fees from DeFi or unrelated apps. - Independence
As we grow, we wouldn’t rely on another chain’s stability or governance.
Challenges
- Bootstrapping
Building and securing our own chain means recruiting validators or running it semi-centralized at the start. - Isolation
We would start with no liquidity, no wallets, no existing marketplaces. - Player Onboarding
New players might hesitate to install a special wallet or buy niche tokens just to play. - Security Burden
Bugs or exploits in the chain would be entirely ours to fix.
Our Middle Path
The most balanced strategy is a hybrid:
- We launch on Solana first, using its speed, low fees, and existing community to bring Starfall Catastrophe to life.
- We later explore a Starfall Catastrophe chain or L2, turning our lore into infrastructure once our community is large enough to sustain it.
This mirrors the journey of other successful blockchain games, and it allows us to grow without overwhelming ourselves at launch.
✨ In short: Solana gives us reach and speed today, while a Starfall Catastrophe Chain would give us sovereignty and lore integration tomorrow. Main issue is scarcity of resources. I still favor putting most resources on gameplay and lore. I permit myself 6 hours a week on this project. To put in perspective, adding online play takes up two FULL hours.
